Climate Change Summit – A Call to Action on the path to the Copenhagen Conference
Toronto – The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is convening a Summit on Climate Change – 22 September 2009 – to focus Heads of State and Government on the need for urgent action, and to mobilize the highest level political to reach a fair, effective, and scientifically ambitious global climate deal at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this December 2009. With the third record hottest summer recorded in the arctic confirming that climate change issues could be worse than previously predicted.
It is urgent for Canadians to urge our local politicians to help us to ensure December’s UN summit, due to create a new global climate treaty to supplant the Kyoto Protocol, is a fair process. However, preparatory talks are fueled by dissension on how much to cut greenhouse gas emissions; confusion on how to finance climate protection; or how to define carbon trading. The United Nations Association in Canada, Toronto Regional Branch wants to engage you in an active dialogue about what can we do locally. Let us continue spreading the facts and news on:
