We look forward to you joining us at the UN DAY CONFERENCE on October 24, 2012!

I have just enrolled $50 as a participant to display my work on a display table on October 24 at United Nations Day at UN Day Conference. Please reserve me a table space at the auditorium for that day.
My topic: “Labelled and Locked Up in Canada’s Oldest Ibnstitution consists of 3 large display boards of photographs about the institutionalization of the “mentally rearded” and “feeble-minded” – particularly the girls, in Ontario and the rest of Canada. The display focuses on one institution , Ontario Hospital School, Orillia.
My creative non-fiction book:
“AND NEITHER HAVE I WINGS TO FLY:
LABELLED AND LOCKED UP IN CANADA’S OLDEST INSTITUTION”
is to be published by INANNA PUBLICATIONS YORK UNIVERSITY
in late October/early November 2012.
I would appreciate some sort of confirmation & receipt that space is now booked for my display at the conference.
I thank you for this opportunity to participate in your ecxcellent conference which is dear to my heart. I did volunteer work as part of Hands Across The Nation in 2004, helping and working with Africans in a rural village of Mali to build a field hospital.
Sincerely & all good wishes,
Thelma Wheatley.
Please note: my payment is under the name on my VISA card, “Thelma Orchard”. But my display and my book is under my writer’s name:
THELMA HEATLEY.
That is the name I would like attached to my display and on my participant label. Thanks.
Hello Thelma, your message has been passed on to the event organizers.
From Judie Oron, October 1, 2012: I have just paid $50 in order to be a participant and to display my work and my book, ‘Cry of the Giraffe:based on a true story,’ on October 24, 2012 at the UN Day Conference. Please reserve a table space for me for that day.
My display will include a Power Point Presentation on my laptop as well as photographs, of the heroine of my book, a young girl named Wuditu, who was separated from her family in a refugee camp in Sudan, forced to walk back to her native Ethiopia, where she was then trapped into slavery. Four years later, after having taken her younger sister Lewteh into my family, I discovered that Wuditu was alive and a captive. I went to Ethiopia, found Wuditu, paid for her freedom and raised her along with her sister and my natural-born children. The book is written in Wuditu’s voice and can be viewed as the diary of a slave.
Can you please issue me some form of confirmation of a place for my display? Thanks for this exciting opportunity. I’m looking forward to the day! Judie
Please let me know if my application for a table at the UN Day Conference has been accepted and if my payment of $50 has been received.
Thanks!
Judie
Hi Judie, your message has been passed on to the event organizers. They’ll contact you soon.
I received the information about Celebrate UN Day from Jasmine at a meeting last night. My son attends a French only school, and feels most comfortable expressing himself in French. Will the UNA Canada (Toronto Branch) accept submissions in French, given that it is one of the official languages spoken at the UN? Also, the competition is open to high school students. My son is in grade 7 (in a 7 – 12 high school). Does that qualify?
Thank you.
Hi Gina, your question has been passed to Jasmine, you should hear a response soon.
HI All,
So excited , and lookibg forward for this grt event on OCT 24th
I’m planning to attend to learn more about the latest on U.N. also: to support Jasmine Jackman
I requested to book a table — sell/promote my book ‘True Colurs’–I understand I have to purchase 5 tickets. I am coming with other friends as well.
-I need to confirm if a table will be reserved for me and what’s the best time for me to arrive?
My book ‘True Colours’ –from the Universe to the Inner Mind on display is an ecclectic collection of simple prose poems — I have painted upon a vast canvas the true colours of our world, ranging from love, romance, politics, poverty, nature, technology with its pros and cons, spirituality, natural disasters, multi-cultrualism etc. A poem on Gaddafi and one on Michael Jackson!!! Previous comment seems to indicate I’m already registered. zz
p.s. I’m an award winning author (from the Mississauga Arts Council as well as from the Universal Peace Federation as Ambassador for Peace and from Endless Possibilities as ‘Woman of Courage’ . I am a promoter of multiculturalism and my passion is to counteract discrimination and any form of stereotyping. I have a poem in my book ‘There’s a Room for You’ –which is about how we created UNITED NATIONS in our basement where you “descend in order to ascend”.
