Playing With Rainbows

children-rainbow“Playing with Rainbows” is a play based, non-therapeutic program for newcomer/refugee children. UNACTO is looking for families with young children from various cultural backgrounds to participate in the program. Our target group are children ranging from 7-12 years of age and their parents, more specifically families who have migrated to Canada from countries affected by war. The program will conduct 12 weekly sessions that will take place for approximately 90 minutes each. Each session has been designed to help both children and youth better understand the affects of their experience with war and/or migration. Each group of 7-12 children will be sponsored by a community agency and will be co-facilitated by people representing those organizations who have been trained by the Coalition.

The Playing with Rainbows Program is funded through the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services and some Private donors.

Playing with Rainbows is a fun filled educational program that teaches kids different skills such as self confidence, team work, problem solving, safety, adapting to their new surroundings, understanding cultural diversity and learning to love and appreciate their cultural heritage. The program will also incorporate many recreational activities.

Participation in the above program is completely voluntary. Parents may withdraw their child/ren from the program at any time if they choose to do so. There will be absolutely no penalty for terminating participation in this program.

In the near future there will be another group for youth (14-18) will be scheduled.
